The Landing
The Landing is an Agritourism, Artist Boutique, and Community Hub Project that will provide essential lodging for visitors, creating a new revenue stream for the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm while offering guests a unique agritourism experience.
The Farm has drawn significant interest both locally & internationally
with over 5,000 visitors annually before the pandemic. With the nearest hotel over a mile away and limited short-term rentals in the North End, many visitors typically stay downtown, missing the opportunity to benefit the local economy.
We envision the Landing as a blended agribusiness-focused AirBnB, featuring an Artist Boutique and education center that showcases Detroit’s vibrant local artistry and culinary culture. The ground floor will be home to Mandisa Smith, a fiber artist and founder of AKOMA, a cooperative gallery supporting Black women artists. The space will host cultural programming and art-based workshops, with opportunities for private event rentals.
“We envision the Landing as a blended agribusiness-focused AirBnB”
In addition to the indoor programming, the Landing will seamlessly integrate into the outdoor cultural landscape. It will feature dye flower garden installations for educational and artistic use, right next to the Agri Art Alleyway, allowing visitors and the community to engage in both art and agriculture. These installations will support artistic expression while teaching about sustainable gardening practices.
The second floor will offer art- and agriculture-inspired living spaces for eco-tourists, providing immersive accommodations for guests interested in sustainable tourism.
As part of the programming, The Landing will offer a series of fiber art workshops for all ages. These workshops will include lectures, hands-on projects, and other creative activities, allowing the community to engage in fiber arts while learning new skills.
We envision the Landing as a cultural and economic asset within the North End that will attract visitors and support community development initiatives.
