The North End Agri-Art Alley is a groundbreaking initiative in Detroit,
the first of its kind. Anchored by the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm in collaboration with artists from the Oakland Avenue Artists Coalition, this vibrant green art installation seamlessly integrates agriculture, art, and community in Detroit’s North End.
This transformative project takes an underutilized alley and reimagines it as a vibrant public space that serves as both an artistic showcase and a sustainable green area. By integrating the local environment, Art Alleyways are about revitalizing public spaces—turning neglected areas into lively, accessible hubs for art, culture, and nature.
Building Collective Power in Detroit’s Historic North End
This initiative highlights the power of community-driven creativity, where local artists and residents are invited to contribute to installations that reflect the unique identity and history of the North End. As part of a larger movement to promote cultural sustainability, the Agri Art Alleyway not only strengthens the visual and artistic fabric of the neighborhood but also promotes environmentally conscious practices and green initiatives.
This green alley complements the Oakland Avenue Farmer’s Market, North End Resource Center, Oakland Avenue Cooperative Greenhouse, and Black Bottom Garden Center. The alley is funded in part by the Knight Foundation and the City of Detroit’s ACE Program.
